Tidelands, also known as riparian lands, are all those lands now or formerly flowed by the mean high tide of a natural waterway. The State claims these lands that existed previously. Property owners may desire a riparian grant from the State if any portion of their property was, at one time, flowed by the mean high tide of a natural body of water despite the fact that it has been filled in and the former waterway is no longer evident. A property survey showing lands claims by the State is necessary to obtain a riparian grant.
